Anyone interested in getting paid to publicise machinima? We just had this from Ben Guaraldi, Director of Outreach for the 48 Hour Film Project.
As you probably know, the 48HFP is an international filmmaking competition in which teams of filmmakers from four continents make movies in 48 hours. For the past two years, we’ve taken had a Machinima competition, which competes against our regular cities. We’re hoping to do this again in 2009, but our wonderful Machinima Producer, Melissa Robison, is moving on to other projects.
The 48HFP is now looking for a new Machinima Producer. She or he will be responsible for getting the word out about the Machinima 48HFP; securing a way to screen the films; running the kickoff, dropoff, and screenings; and making sure the filmmakers have a good time. Knowledge of virtual worlds and editing programs are essential, as are organizational, communication, and writing skills.
This is a paid position. The Machinima Producer cannot participate in the 48 Hour Film Project.
If you’re interested, or know someone who is, please send a resume and a cover email to (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)—and be sure to include a phone number.
Please don’t email questions without attaching a resume.
Yeah, that’s me in the spotlight looking like a frightened rabbit.
Last week we told you that the Soundfactor Collection would be available on Wednesday 26th August. Turns out that’s not quite going to be the case. We’ve been working away in the background on some major changes to the way the marketplace works, and we’ve just reached a delicate stage where adding new things right now is likely to cause us a whole heap of pain when we do the final migration to the new system. Added to which, it’s August, and half our dev team are off enjoying themselves in the sunshine and sipping pina coladas, so we’re running everything by the seat of our pants anyway, and, well, you get the idea.
We’re hoping we’ll get a window next week where we can ship the Soundfactor Collection before we dive into the final stage of development mayhem on the marketplace front. If not, ummm, please bear with us. We’ll get to it as soon as possible.
Add yet more music to your Moviestorm productions with these three new packs from Soundfactor Productions, due for release on Wednesday, August 26, 2009.
Exotic moods
Add a touch of drama, mystery, and nostalgia with these electronic and orchestral sounds. Well-chosen music can often convey mood far more effectively than visuals or words ever can. A simple sequence of still or slowly panning images, combined with evocative music, can set the tone of a scene in seconds without the need for complicated exposition or story. This wide-ranging collection of fully-licensed music tracks evoke everything from sunny Mediterranean hillsides to majestic Oriental splendor, sultry Mexican passion, and wistful nostalgia. When we say ancients, we mean it. This quote is from Lycurgus of Sparta, who was around nearly 3000 years ago. The Spartans were hard sonsabitches. Don’t argue with them. They’ll hurt you.
“Life is an endless struggle full of frustrations and challenges, but eventually you find a hair stylist you like. “

How often do you watch a movie and take note of the hairstylist? I’d bet, almost never. But, like most of the people in a film crew, if they weren’t there doing their job, you’d notice. Hair is as important as costume and make-up when it comes to creating a movie character. In many cases, more so. You can recognise a character in silhouette by their hair alone, and when they’re in close-up, you almost certainly can’t see the costume.
We’re putting the final touches to the hairstyles packs this week - here’s a peek at what’s on offer in the Female hairstyles pack. It includes seven different styles, all fully customisable. Each of them can be coloured in 14 different ways, and most can be lengthened, twisted or altered to create a unique look. For even greater variation, experiment with two-tone hairstyles and hairpieces, and combine them with our huge range of costumes in the wardrobe and other packs.
Price and release date to be announced.

If you’re wondering about the title of this, it’s a quote from the 16th century theologian Martin Luther, “The hair is the richest ornament of women.”
